What’s in a Mini Fridge…

I’m all for minimalism if you can do it but, living with a mini fridge for a month and a half has been a challenge… and a half.

Due to the on-going kitchen renovation, we have been operating with a mini-fridge since mid December. We sold our fridge along with our cabinets, purchased one new one but delivery was not available to the middle of nowhere until mid-February.

I packed up a large bag of condiments, etc to be sent to the city to live in the fridge where things disappear. Honestly though, I can’t remember what any of it was… I hoped to make better use of the outdoors but our winter was so up and down, there was nothing I could do about temperature control. Our chest freezer got some use as most veggies I bought were frozen, meats needed to be frozen right away and making ice was difficult in the mini.

Here’s my list of couldn’t live withouts:

  • fermented foods: kimchi, sauerkraut, miso paste, yogurt
  • eggs
  • cheese
  • hot sauces
  • fizzy water
  • maple syrup
  • chocolate
  • curry paste
  • peanut butter
  • ghee
  • ranch dressing – for Friday night pizza

What I missed the most:

  • kombucha – without the fridge space, I haven’t made any in months
  • fresh veggies
  • meal prepping
  • buying items in bulk

What would your non-negotiables be for a mini-fridge? What would you miss?
